Un adjetivo en grado superlativo, también llamado comparativo de excelencia, expresa la característica en su grado máximo. En general, la gradación sólo es aplicable a adjetivos calificativos, pero puede darse en algunos casos en ciertos sustantivos y adverbios. Es decir un adjetivo superlativo exagera lo ya exagerado por ejemplo: gordo (adjetivo positivo) muy gordo (adjetivo comparativo) el más gordo (adjetivo superlativo.
